Wyckles Road Bridge over the Sangamon River, Macon County, Illinois
Chastain provided Phase II design engineering services for the rehabilitation of the longest bridge in the Macon County highway system. This bridge was a 7-span, 705’ long structure comprised of 4 spans of 60" web plate girder and 3 spans of W36 beams. The improvements consisted of a deck replacement with an increased thickness from the original 7" to 7.5" and complete replacement of finger plate expansion joints. The deck was widened from 36’ to 39’-2" and the spans with 60" web plate girders were made composite. Girder end and cross frame repairs were necessary due to leaking expansion joints. Project was financed using Major Bridge Funds and the project was completed in 2010 for a total construction cost of $2 million. |
