Jackson Boulevard Bridge House Restoration Project
Chastain provided Phase III construction engineering services for the rehabilitation of the two bridge houses at Jackson Boulevard and the Chicago River. After 100 years of service, the once stately Jackson Street Bridge Houses, constructed in 1916, were in serious state of disrepair with a crumpling façade, deteriorating roof, etc. To return these structures to their original grandeur, this project included the removal of the failing concrete and was replaced with specially designed concrete, utilizing custom made forms to replicate and match the historic architectural finish. In addition, minor structural repairs were made. The structures were sealed with a clear sealer and the windows were caulked. This project was completed in 2016 for a construction cost of $340,000. |
